January 7 – 9, 2011 − The new year began on a high note for over 100 John Molson School of Business (JMSB) students with two simultaneous victories at two different competitions. JMSB delegations were sent to two major North American competitions, Jeux du Commerce (JDC) at the University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management, and the Inter Collegiate Business Competition (ICBC) held at Queen’s University. The students were crowned winners at both events. In preparing for JDC, the entire delegation spent over four months getting ready for the grueling weekend. The hard work paid off as the students represented JMSB with pride and dignity. The double win is a great achievement and is the result of great team work. The 23rd edition of JDC brought together 1,200 students from 13 universities across Eastern Canada. Rounding the top three spots were HEC Montreal in third place and Telfer in second. JMSB wishes to recognize the host school, Telfer, for organizing a great event.
Overall results:
- John Molson School of Business, Concordia University
- Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa
- HEC Montreal

November 21, 2010 – The John Molson School of Business competition program attended the Human Resources Symposium, one of the four REFAEC (Regroupement des étudiants des facultésd’administration de l’Est du Canada) competitions held across Quebec. Nine schools attended the HR Symposium, held at Université de Sherbrooke.
The event was well run and the competition was strong. Team JMSB fought hard and earned two second place and several fourth place finishes. The overall results placed JMSB fourth after Ottawa, Sherbrooke, and Laval respectively.
JMSB would like to thank the entire delegation who attended the competition as well as all the coaches and students who accompanied the competitors. JMSB’s presence at the competition was significant and showed JMSB’s strong school spirit and passion for the competition program.
The competition program would also like to thank coach Aaron Dresner and head coach Mark Haber for their support and help during the competition.
Special congratulations are in order to Rebecca Golt, Valerie Larochelle and Louis Martyres for a nail-biting second place finish in the Quiz category. Thanks to their coach Matt Fishman. Congratulations to the Walleyball team members Terrence Dobson, Nick Henderson, Frank Belanger, Stephanie Sun, Jenna Yee, Maud Andréa, and coach Louis Blaquiere, as well as substitute Etienne Pilon Choquette for the amazing effort put into the Finals.

November 17, 2010 – Two accounting teams from JMSB attended the second edition of the Brock University Accounting Conference. Both teams and coaches had positive experiences at the competition. Some even mentioned that it was one of the best competitions ever attended: logistics were flawless and the city of Niagara Falls was great.
The Brock Accounting Conference hosted sixteen teams from eleven universities. The preliminary round of the competition consisted of three divisions of teams. The winner from each division moved to the final round and presented to a panel of judges from all three divisions. The final case consisted of a real-life situation at a public company (Andrew Peller Inc., operators of Peller Estates wineries). Some of the Peller accounting managers were among the panel of judges.
Although JMSB had two teams present at the preliminary round, only one team made it to the finals. According to the coaches present during the weekend, both teams should have made it to the finals, however the judging was a bit different across the three divisions.
Both teams represented JMSB well and enjoyed their weekend. The first team, formed by Sasha Lalonde, Audrey Laundry, and Stanislav Shadrin, was eliminated in the preliminaries despite a great presentation. The other team, composed of Domenic Leone, Rocco Masella, Jessica Nardelli and Alexander Ryzhikov, won the competition and impressed all the judges and observers.
Congratulations to both teams for their participation and results. Both groups made JMSB proud. Thank you to coaches Patrick Gagnon and Basel Arafe who coached and accompanied the teams to Niagara Falls; as well as Gail Fayerman who coached and supported the teams; and Mark Haber for his continued support to the competition program.
Special thanks to our exclusive sponsor, Pfizer Canada, for their support and encouragement.

November 17, 2010 – After travelling half way across the world and back, JMSB students Benoit Chevrier, Valerie Larochelle, Jonathan Laurence-Ruel and Kyle Seaman are home to share their experience. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology hosted their eighth annual CITI International Case Competition earlier this month. The event is jointly organized by CITI Hong Kong and the HKUST’s School of Business.
This year’s winners from the Richard Ivey School of Business had to compete with eighteen other universities from ten countries in order to win. Unfortunately JMSB was faced with hard competition before the final round. Judges commented that while JMSB’s general strategy solution was a great idea; they were looking for an international expansion plan instead. The team was also complemented on their professional consultation presentation style and very strong Question & Answer period. The team represented JMSB well and reaffirmed the school’s strong record at international case competitions.
Congratulations to the HK team for the comprehensive research and presentation of their recommendations at the competition. Thanks to Peter Vogopoulos, their lead coach, as well as Hadi Azar, Victor Esposito and Thomas Horvath for developing the team’s skills to a new level of performance and Mark Haber for his continued support for the competition program.
Special thanks to our exclusive sponsor, Pfizer Canada, for their support and encouragement.

October 28, 2010 – Two students represented the John Molson School of Business (JMSB) and the school’s case competition program at The University of Arizona’s Collegiate Eller Ethics Case Competition.
The team delivered a solid performance but was edged out in the cumulative two preliminary rounds by the overall winner of the competition, Elon University. Elon’s first round presentation was better; and while JMSB presented a solid second round of Questions & Answers, the team did not make the final cut.
The competition has three phases. The first round is a 20-minute presentation with a five-minute Questions & Answers period on issues pertinent to the presentation. During the second round, the judges ask eight predetermined standard questions to all teams. The cumulative scores are tallied and the winners in each division proceed to the finals. During the final round, teams trim their presentations down to 10 minutes and one standard question is asked by the judges.
Congratulations to Isabella Matteo and Mitchell Robitaille for their comprehensive research and presentation of recommendations at the competition. Thanks to Jonathan Kuczer, their lead coach, for bringing them to a performance level that makes JMSB very proud. A special thank you goes to Mark Haber, Academic Advisor to the Competition program, for accompanying the team to Arizona.
Special thanks to our exclusive sponsor, Pfizer Canada, for their support and encouragement.
